What Happens at a Rehearsal

Every rehearsal runs for two hours and opens with a warm-up and vocal development – technique comes first, not just singing through songs. We work from full choral scores in four-part harmony rather than lyric sheets, seated, in a focused but light-hearted room. You won't be asked to dance or to memorise everything. Around 80% of our members learnt to read music after joining, so sight-reading is genuinely not a requirement.

Where Our St Albans Singers Perform

St Albans members have sung at the World Voices Festival in St Albans Cathedral and at The Sandpit Theatre, alongside the wider choir programme: Cadogan Hall, the Royal Academy of Music, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, Abbey Road Studios, Disneyland California, the Berlin Philharmonie and Chase Field Stadium in Arizona. Projects for 2026/27 include tours to Finland and Hong Kong.

Getting to Our St Albans Rehearsals

We rehearse at St Albans URC – Greenwood on Watford Road, south-west of the city centre, which puts us within easy reach of St Albans, Park Street, How Wood, Bricket Wood, London Colney, Radlett and Harpenden. Your membership also covers our Marlow and Aylesbury rehearsals, so you can sing up to three times a week at no extra cost.

Membership and Joining

Membership is £58.50 a month by Direct Debit with no long-term contract. That covers around 40 two-hour rehearsals a year – we run all year round, not just in term time – plus workshops, joint and project rehearsals, online learning resources and socials. Discounts are available for students in full-time education. There's no audition to come along to a taster session; if you decide to join afterwards, we'll arrange a friendly 5–10 minute voice review to find your part.
